How to Split a Bank Statement PDF

Banks usually deliver statements as a single PDF. If you want to send one page to your accountant, archive a year of statements as twelve separate files, or just keep things organised, you need to split that PDF. This guide walks you through how to do it for free, in your browser, without uploading your statement anywhere.

Why doing this in your browser matters

A bank statement is a sensitive document. It shows your account number, your name, your address, and every transaction you made in the period it covers. Uploading it to an unknown server — even a popular one — means handing a copy to whoever operates that server. Many free PDF tools do exactly that.

The splitter on this site is different: it uses JavaScript inside your browser to read and rewrite the PDF locally. Your statement never travels to us, and we keep no copy. You can verify this by opening your browser's developer tools, switching to the Network tab, and confirming that no upload request happens when you split a file.

Step-by-step

  1. Save the statement to your device. Download it from your bank's app or online banking portal. Keep the original somewhere safe before you start.
  2. Open the splitter. Go to the PDF Splitter homepage.
  3. Drop the PDF in. Drag the statement onto the upload box or click to pick it.
  4. Choose how to split it. See the next section for the right mode for your situation.
  5. Pick your download style. One ZIP is easier if you have lots of files; separate downloads suit small splits.
  6. Click Split PDF. The new files are generated on your device and offered for download.

Choosing the right split mode for a statement

One file per page

Pick each page as a separate PDF when each page of your statement covers a distinct period (for example one month per page), or when you only need to share one page and aren't sure which yet.

Custom ranges

Pick custom ranges when statements span multiple pages per month. For example, if January takes pages 1–3, February takes pages 4–6, and March takes pages 7–9, type 1-3, 4-6, 7-9. You'll get three PDFs back, one per month.

Every N pages

Pick every N pages when your statement is perfectly uniform — for example a full year as twelve identical four-page blocks. Set every 4 pages and you'll get twelve files. If the layout varies between months, custom ranges are safer.

Tips for handling split statements

  • Use a sortable naming convention. Rename the output files to 2025-01.pdf, 2025-02.pdf, and so on. Filenames in YYYY-MM order sort chronologically in any file manager.
  • Redact before sharing. If you are sending a single page to a third party — a lender, a landlord, an accountant — consider redacting the account number and sort code unless they specifically need them. The splitter does not redact; use Adobe Acrobat, PDF24's redaction tool, or your PDF reader's redact feature, then split the redacted version here.
  • Password-protect for email. If you must email a statement, set a password on the PDF in your reader before sending it, and share the password through a different channel such as a text message.
  • Keep the original. The split files are independent — if you make a mistake, you'll want the original to start from.

Ready to split your statement?

Drop your PDF into the splitter on the home page. It runs in your browser; your statement never leaves your device.

Frequently asked questions

Will my bank statement be uploaded anywhere?

No. The splitter runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Your statement is read locally, the new files are written locally, and nothing leaves your device.

Can I split a password-protected bank statement PDF?

Encrypted PDFs are not supported. Open your statement in your PDF reader, save a copy without the password, then split the unlocked copy here.

Can I redact account numbers in the splitter?

No. This tool splits PDFs only. For redaction, use a tool that supports it such as Adobe Acrobat, PDF24, or your PDF reader's redact feature, then split the redacted version here.

How should I name the split files?

If the statement covers multiple months, name files in YYYY-MM format (for example 2025-01.pdf, 2025-02.pdf). Files sort chronologically by name, which makes them easier to find later.
